RIDGEWOODRadiant Floor Heating Rough-In: Pre-War Two-Family Gut Reno
→
A Ridgewood homeowner gut-renovating a 1910s attached brick two-family saw the floor-open stage as the right time to convert from old steam baseboard to radiant floor heating. With subfloors exposed and the boiler being replaced, we roughed in the full PEX distribution system, set the manifold, and installed the expansion tank before framing closed. The result is a clean, zone-controlled hydronic radiant system built into a century-old building.
GLENDALEIndirect Water Heater Install: Boiler Integration
→
A Glendale homeowner with an aging electric water heater wanted a better solution tied into the existing boiler, we replaced the old tank with an indirect water heater connected to the boiler's hydronic system, delivering faster recovery, lower operating cost, and one fewer appliance to maintain independently.
RIDGEWOODMini-Split HVAC Line Set: Ridgewood Pre-War Two-Family
→
A Ridgewood two-family owner adding a ductless mini-split to the second-floor unit needed the refrigerant line set and condensate drain run on the exterior brick wall. We installed the copper lines and PVC drain in a white line-hide conduit system, properly anchored and weatherproofed, so the HVAC contractor could connect both units cleanly.
CROWN HEIGHTSSteam boiler service — thermocouple & relief valve, Park Place
→
A Crown Heights brownstone on Park Place had a New Yorker gas steam boiler that stopped firing. The thermocouple was worn out and the safety relief valve had failed. We replaced both components, restarted the system, and confirmed full operation with heat restored the same day.
RIDGEWOODSteam boiler service — low water cutoff + sediment flush
→
A Ridgewood pre-war two-family had a gas steam boiler locking out repeatedly on the low water cutoff. The float was fouled with years of sediment and rust accumulation. We flushed the system, cleaned the low water cutoff, and confirmed stable water level and pressure before leaving.

Boiler and heating questions from homeowners

How do I know if my boiler needs to be repaired or replaced?

A boiler that is losing pressure repeatedly, heating unevenly, cycling on and off without reaching temperature, or showing visible corrosion or leaking at fittings usually needs repair. A boiler that is more than 20–25 years old with recurring problems is often more cost-effective to replace than to keep repairing. When we diagnose a boiler problem we tell you honestly which category it falls into — we do not push replacements when a repair is the right answer.

What causes a boiler to lose pressure?

Boiler pressure drops when the system loses water. The most common causes are a small leak at a valve, fitting, or the expansion tank bladder, or a failed pressure relief valve that is weeping slowly. Automatic fill valves can also mask a leak by continuously topping up the system. We test the system, isolate the source of the loss, and fix the actual cause rather than just resetting the pressure.

Do you install Navien boilers in Brooklyn and Queens?

Yes. We are Navien-certified (Level 2 and Level 3 training) and install and service Navien combination boilers and tankless water heaters. Navien combi boilers are increasingly popular in two-families and renovated Brooklyn and Queens houses because they provide both heat and hot water from one compact unit. We handle the full installation including venting, gas connection, and system commissioning.

My radiators heat unevenly — some are hot, some are cold. What's wrong?

Uneven radiator heating is usually a balancing problem, an air-binding problem, or a distribution problem. On hot-water systems, air trapped in radiators or in the piping prevents water from circulating properly. On steam systems, a waterlogged main vent or a failed steam trap on individual radiators is the typical cause. We diagnose the system and identify the specific cause rather than guessing.

Can you install radiant floor heating in a Brooklyn or Queens house?

Yes. PEX radiant rough-in for residential floors, manifold installation, zone controls, and boiler connection. Radiant is most cost-effective to install during a gut renovation when the floor is open. We work from the renovation schedule and coordinate the rough-in with the GC and flooring contractor.
